So yesterday i got quite a response on my article Is it OK to be gay ?
Some comments on Facebook and whats app gave me quite the chills, but i still stand on my opinion.Being gay is not a crime.
Here are some of the comments i got;
- So what about religion, the law and the fact that the society is not ready to embrace gay relationships?
- I have respect for all individuals gay or straight …I think yeah everyone should be given their deserved humanly rights as possible …but when it comes to me …and my experiences with gays..especially men..it gives me a turn off when they enter my space.
- About gay
Am a little conservative
I wouldn’t advocate for man to man relationships but i have no issue with girl to girl
- Sophie,are you homosexual?
Just to get one thing very clear,AM NOT GAY!I am 100% attracted to the opposite gender.I just have a strong opinion when it comes to homosexuality.
So to start with the first comment is very significant in this case and probably it’s the reason why most of you have something against homosexuality.
- Religion ,law and society
The most basic argument against gay marriages is that it’s not “NATURAL” and is a violation of natural order. In reality, marriage is a societal institution. The natural world didn’t create marriage, humans did. Nature-themed arguments against gay marriage say little about the societal institution of marriage but reveal a lot about the homophobia and hetero-sexism of those who present such arguments. In this regard, the disapproval isn’t about gay marriage per se — it’s more about discomfort with homosexuality, period.
‘It’s Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve’ so they say.Marriage is not a religious institution but a socio-legal one governed by the state. Religious beliefs about marriage should never be enshrined in laws in ways that restrict the freedom of others who do not share those beliefs.
“Sanctity”Allowing same-sex couples to marry apparently poses a “threat” to “traditional marriage” as though somehow heterosexual married couples will all be at risk of divorcing when two people of the same sex marry each other. If those who use the “sanctity” argument were genuinely concerned about the institution of marriage they’d focus their efforts on helping those straight married couples who are at risk of divorcing. If marriage was so “sacred” they’d also be pursuing the outlawing of heterosexual divorce. They do neither of these things. The only married straight couples impacted by the legalization of gay marriage are those in which one of the parties is a closet-case gay person who dreams of coming out and marrying someone of the same sex!
Reverse discrimination,in this reverse scenario gay people are apparently “hateful” for wanting to be treated equally in society. How dare we demand equal rights and criticize those who discriminate against us!
BE PROUD OF YOUR BELIEFS BUT DON’T USE THEM TO TELL PEOPLE WHAT TO DO.
Just before i forget,NO marriage is not for procreation otherwise infertile couples should not marry too.
- “I have nothing against gays but It gives me a turn off when they enter my space”
This reminds me of an American radio host Alex Jones who keeps saying he has nothing against gay people and thinks they’re wonderful. But then he keeps saying hateful and ultimately insane things about LGBT.
You are either for gay marriage or you ain’t. If you support opposite sex marriage,do they turn you off?Love is love just deal with it.It’s not a brainier really,if you are not for gay marriage, don’t marry a gay person.Being turned of by their business should really not be you business, period!
- I wouldn’t advocate for man to man relationships but i have no issue with girl to girl
I have no words @Brian but i have a reaction to your statement!
This is why you support lesbians and not gays. They turn you on!That’s a little selfish but OK.
conclusion: Marriage Equality is the Future — Embrace it!
There is no logical or reasonable basis for denying same-sex couples access to secular marriage laws. Opposing the inevitable (marriage equality) is a waste of time, money and energy. I urge all of those who oppose gay marriage to start focusing on their own lives, to accept that they don’t need to marry a person of the same sex, and to recognize the right of all Kenyans to be treated equally under the law: “liberty and justice for all” should not come with a disclaimer!
I don’t think any of us has any grounds to say any other human being is unworthy. You are allowed to disagree but not judge or take any moral higher ground. How many demons do we all carry? Live and let live
